Amazon Web Services
Amazon.com is synonymous with shopping and is known to many as a multi-billion dollar online retail business only. It needs a robust set of well-designed internal systems and networks to maintain connectivity and computing flexibility between locations as its backbone for smooth functioning and delivering great customer experience repeatedly and consistently.
Most may feel surprised to see Amazon as a technology company rather than a retail business. Amazon is using technology to its fullest extent and is helping others also do the same further to the realization that they could rent their unique system as a set of services to other businesses and consumers. It realized earlier the power and possibilities of server less computing to one and all.
Since early 2006, Amazon has been delivering a computing service known as Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS has been providing companies the advantages of big companies at a fraction of cost with an infrastructure platform in the cloud. AWS helps entrepreneurs and many companies to bootstrap their infrastructure as AWS provides on-demand computing resources and services in the cloud, with pay-as-you-go pricing. Using AWS, any individual or company can request compute power, storage, and other services. It started small with two services- rent computers and storage by the hour- which became cloud computing. However, it is inclusive and diverse to cater diverse needs.
AWS provide more than 100 services as of now due to its industry-leading innovations. Most of your needs are taken care already. In case, if they are not, expect them to be fulfilled as AWS is adding new services regularly based on what customers ask. 90% of what we build is what customers ask for,” with the remaining 10% focused on strategic interpretations of customer needs as explained by Andy Jassy, CEO of AWS, in the re:Invent conference 2017
AWS is not leaving any field without making it to cloud from Application services, Storage AI, Data analytics, VR, AR, Gaming, Compute, Machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT). It is natural that AWS is leading the cloud computing.
The days of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS may soon be over as AWS is helping us define what it means to access, and consume buy and use software where cloud is given. AWS is always reinventing and making us to take the cloud as granted. AWS has more than a 1 million active customers in 190 countries, including nearly 2,000 government agencies, 5,000 schools and over 17,500 nonprofits by the end of 2014. The latest figures are not yet public. Adoption of cloud continues to accelerate at a break-neck pace, and thus there are plenty of opportunities for everyone.
AWS has its own competitors. Competition is best for the consumer. It helps you, as a consumer, to win with cost reduction, innovation or provision of service as everyone is evolving their portfolio to meet your requirements and demands of the modern consumer. However, that creates confusion through too many choices for you. So, choose wisely.
If you are having any lingering doubts, opt to dive into their free tier, for 12 months, to experience and decide. Finally, it is all about what’s better for your use case considering your goals and the context you are in. It all depends. In case if you are not sure, ask experts. They help you to choose the best service, how to order it and the best way to utilize it. Amazon introduced a number of different Amazon Web Services (AWS) certifications to credential those experts. One can become expert in AWS and is turning into a great job provider. Many companies are using AWS to reduce their costs- capital and maintenance - and they needed an inside expert to manage their AWS. Not only that, jobs would be available, thus secure as almost every hot new tech is at least backwards compatible with AWS. Achieve certifications. Many are doing freelance business along with a regular job after achieving the certifications. For the old timers, with the hands-on understanding you had about the servers, and everything about systems and of the inner workings of the systems, the public cloud provides you an opportunity to plan or coordinate diverse and complex resources and the elements of resources to produce the desired effect in ways that were never before possible. The cloud helps you to focus on the higher level thinking, imagining and orchestration as you have more power to control your resources. Easy jobs are now automated, faster, and many jobs now are simpler, and direct. You have time as there is no need to repetitive mindless manual work all the time and they won’t take your time any more. Is it not challenging fun to create complex systems than running them? Cloud is not a DIY project and not ready to eat product. It just does not work instantly and automatically. There is a need for expertise to migrate to cloud and maintain it for a smooth run on AWS cloud. Companies need managed service providers to ensure and enable their AWS cloud has greater success, security, scalability, and sustainability. It is a sad fact that those who have not updated their skills and attitudes to adapt to the evolving landscape are going to be left behind. Learn AWS and never forget to learn about how to design, create, and maintain a great system. Tools are anyway secondary. Remember, AWS is a tool set.
